My work is tied to social and political narratives and a keen awareness of the fragility of our moment in time. The surfaces on my ceramic sculptures, the arbitrary marks and patterns, speak for the arbitrary events that affect each being even before birth. I hope to suggest a sense that these forms arise, like seeds from the earth and from vast spans of time.
Throughout the many chapters in my art making, I find myself returning to the female form and the theme of women as vessels of knowledge and nurturers of seeds. My forms pay homage to the many unheard voices and the challenges of being female. In solving problems of aesthetics, I meditate on proportion, both the physical and the spiritual, and try to find a place of equilibrium in the swirling chaos of life. These ceramic forms honor our ancestors, the grief experienced at inevitable changes and loss and the emotional connections that nurture, sustain and cultivate hope.
